Texas Mountain Cedar Designs is a family owned and operated business. With over 18 years of experience working with Texas mountain cedar, Leonard Pricer has developed a unique artistry building pergolas, trellises, arbors, and fences from sturdy cedar.
In 1980 Leonard, a native Texan, met his wife and partner Nancy, (who hailed from Austin, Minnesota) while attending the Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. Within five years of graduation, Nancy and Leonard were married, purchased their first home and stumbled into the ‘World of Texas Mountain Cedar’.
To earn a little extra income, both Leonard and Nancy worked on a friend’s 365-acre ranch helping to clear the property of cedar trees which, in turn allowed more grazing room for the cattle that roamed the ranch. Nancy worked side by side with the two men, cutting trees, dragging brush AND, dodging rattlesnakes. Because of their respect for the environment, it was important to both of them to recycle the trees that they were harvesting thereby providing the inspiration for launching Texas Mountain Cedar Designs. In addition, Leonard built trellises out of the cedar to supports climbing vegetables in their 1/3-acre garden and a large pergola covering their back patio.
In 1991 after Leonard’s job at General Dynamics was eliminated, and a local business owner put his cedar yard up for sale, Leonard and his ranching buddy jumped at the chance to run their own cedar business full-time.
As the business evolved, it allowed the Pricers the flexibility to raise a growing family. Leonard stayed at home creating his cedar designs and tending to their young son and daughter, while Nancy continued her full-time job outside the home. As young children, both Terry and Hanna followed their father to the cedar yard and did what they could to participate in their parent’s business. Through the watchful eye of both their parents, the children have learned many of the skills and artistry that Leonard has developed over the years.
Both Leonard and Nancy feel strongly about increasing the value and enjoyment of a homeowner’s property, park areas or outdoor living space. Just recently Nancy joined forces with her family and now works full-time alongside Leonard to help build their growing business. Their interest in native Texas landscaping and their love of rustic and wildscaping gardens is reflected in their product quality, unique designs and highly personalized service. They truly love what they do. It is their lifelong wish that many others can also appreciate and enjoy their designs and products as well.
